President Davi Alcolumbre, Ladies and Gentlemen Parliamentarians, only and solely to record the joy of seeing the name of Appellate Judge Carlos Brandão approved now, who very shortly will be a Minister of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), and likewise to pay my respects to Dr. Maria Marluce Caldas Bezerra, whose hearing will be opened in a moment – and whose name will certainly be approved by the Plenary of the Federal Senate.

To both, to Minister Carlos Brandão and to Minister Marluce Caldas Bezerra, our confidence that they will join a court absolutely fundamental to democracy, to the rule of law, to the Brazilian Republic, which is the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), created with a very noble purpose and, I repeat, absolutely fundamental for the Judiciary and for Justice in our country, namely the unification of the jurisprudence of the state courts of justice and of the federal regional courts — the six federal regional courts that we have in Brazil.

Therefore, I would like to urge the entire Plenary of the Federal Senate, the Constitution and Justice Committee, chaired by our dear Senator Otto Alencar, and Your Excellency, that we dedicate ourselves, in this second semester, to legislation that can define the rules for determining the legal relevance of theses that may reach the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), because this will be fundamental to reducing the workload of the ministers of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), while also reconciling the interests of the legal profession, given that we are in deep dialogue with the OAB, so that there will be, if not unanimous, then majority support for this legislative proposal, which will confer relevance within the STJ (Superior Court of Justice).
So, that is the statement we would like to make, on the occasion of our congratulations to Minister Carlos Brandão and to Minister Maria Marluce Caldas Bezerra. Thank you very much.
