Rodrigo Pacheco: To both, to Minister Carlos Brandão and to Minister Marluce Caldas Bezerra, our confidence that they will join a court absolutely fundamental to democracy, to the rule of law, to the Brazilian Republic, which is the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), created with a very noble purpose and, I repeat, absolutely fundamental for the Judiciary and for Justice in our country, namely the unification of the jurisprudence of the state courts of justice and of the federal regional courts — the six federal regional courts that we have in Brazil.
Rodrigo Pacheco: The role of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice) in fixing and defining the country’s jurisprudence through the application and the force of our federal laws is absolutely essential and must be recognized by us.
The strengthening of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice) will always mean the strengthening of the Judiciary and the easing of demands on the STF (Supreme Federal Tribunal), because once the resolution of legal conflicts is achieved within the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), our country’s Supreme Court will naturally be less sought.
Rodrigo Pacheco: For that reason these two nominees will join with great distinction, since they have brought in their previous careers this very same quality as jurists that they possess.
Rodrigo Pacheco: And another point, President Davi Alcolumbre, also very relevant, is the occasion of these two nominations to the STJ (Superior Court of Justice): the recent meeting we had with President Antonio Herman Benjamin, of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), about something that was conceived in the National Congress regarding legal relevance, which was inserted into the Federal Constitution as a requirement for special appeals.
