Congratulations on the initiative of this solemn session, which greatly honors us and attempts to compensate a little for the shame, Dr. Claudio Lottenberg, that we all feel – and I believe I can speak on behalf of Brazilian Jews as well – regarding the stance of the current Government in relation to this war that is taking place.

And the word here today is one of recognition of the Jewish people, of recognition of the State of Israel.
I say that every Brazilian, at some point in life, should spend a few hours inside the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, to have the real magnitude of how far human malice can go.
The memories of the Holocaust, which are in that museum, which are also in the museum in Rio de Janeiro, inaugurated by then Mayor Marcelo Crivella, lead us to the conviction that what we are seeing today, before our eyes, is the greatest cowardice the Jewish people have suffered since the Holocaust.

And I see here, in Brazil, how the brainwashing of our students, especially at universities, manages to produce a battalion of people who seem brainless in having the courage, or rather the cowardice, to defend or justify what Hamas did to the Jews two years ago, on October 7.
And whoever has been to Jerusalem, as I have had the honor of being, to feel the emotion, the living history, the Bible open to the sky, to visit Israel's Congress, the Knesset, and even there to find Parliamentarians who are against the State of Israel...

It is a people and a State that not only speak of tolerance, but set an example and practice tolerance, a Government of Israel that, at various moments in history, provides water to Palestinians, food to refugees, people who are victims of these terrorist groups — it's true — but nothing explains, nothing justifies those terrorist acts by Hamas on October 7.

If it were President Bolsonaro, I am certain you would not put up with this shame, nor would the Jewish community here in our country, because we have always recognized — indeed, we were the first country to recognize — the State of Israel in 1948, at the UN General Assembly.

And the memory we have of those ties between Brazil and Israel includes the firefighters and rescue teams that Israel sent to Brazil to help us rescue the victims in Brumadinho in 2019, in Minas Gerais, and so many other examples in which Israel lends us technology and expertise.

And it is not fair to take the position the current Government takes, sending its Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, to the inauguration of the dictator in Iran, a lamentable photo beside various terrorists, several of whom have even gone on to die, because they were reached by the forces of good that are the forces of Israel.

I speak here with full conviction, with no intention of currying favor with anyone; I only want to speak about what we believe and what we practice, because we on the right here in Brazil are also victims of these narratives, as if we had a discourse of hate, as if we wished harm on anyone, as if we did not respect human rights, when the opposite is true!
