Hello, good afternoon, welcome to Panorama Elections.
Desconhecido
I'm Gabriel Busco, politics coordinator at Metrópolis.
Desconhecido
I'm here with reporter Felipe Salgado, from the column Grande Agumular, and the presidential candidate of partido Missão, Renan Santos.
Desconhecido
Candidate, it's a pleasure to have you here, welcome.
The pleasure is all mine, it's an honor to be with you.
Congratulations on the journalistic coverage, and congratulations on the tie, nice color.
Those in the know will understand?
Anyway, I'm here to answer your questions.
Desconhecido
Candidate, I'd like to start with a curious fact that drew attention already in the pre-campaign, which was one of the billboards the party chose to put up around the country with 'Who is Renan Santos'.
Desconhecido
I'd like you to start this interview by answering who Renan Santos is and what your candidacy proposes.
So, those billboards didn't even come from the party or from us.
Apparently fans were putting them up and the slogan 'Who is Renan Santos' started because of a provocation.
Like someone would say, 'who is Renan Santos?'
And that's it, since I'm unknown, so... yeah, people started, 'who is, who is', there are people who made T-shirts.
Renan Santos, man, who am I, right?
I always answer, it becomes automatic, but I'll try not to answer like everyone else.
I'm a very ambitious person, somewhat odd, a guy... I have many friends, I'm very faithful, very loyal to friends, but I'm a shy person, I overcame a great deal of difficulty.
I overcame shyness to be out here speaking, having to be friendly with everyone.
I'm not very good at it, but I love what I do, I love to speak, I love giving interviews like this, I love to delve into certain conversations.
I'm someone who hates injustice, I like to read, I like to cook and I have a very ambitious vision for Brazil.
I'm not someone closed in ideological boxes, because I think that's intellectually deadening.
I have a little box in my head about what a glorious country is, what it means to lead the country to be a power and what I can contribute to that.
The key to understanding me is understanding what I aspire to and what must be done to get there.
And for me this is inspired by the great leaders of history that I look up to, by the great nations that were sometimes built out of nothing.
Being able to do that for Brazil is what has been motivating not only me but a strange group of people who put together this political party, who financed all of this, which is a very diffuse thing.
It's a very new phenomenon, what is happening will still be studied.
It's a very new phenomenon in Brazilian politics.

Candidate, I want to start by talking about public security policy.
Desconhecido
In your government plan, in chapter 2, you make mentions of El Salvador and the maximum security prison Secote.
Desconhecido
You speak of applying the criminal law of the enemy, of restricting rights for members of factions, and of reversing the burden of proof to allow asset confiscation.
Desconhecido
In El Salvador, 2% of the population is incarcerated.
Desconhecido
And more than 8,000 people were arrested who were innocent.
Desconhecido
They were later released by the government of El Salvador, and the government admitted there was nothing against those people.
Desconhecido
The presumption of innocence is an inviolable clause of our Constitution.
Desconhecido
So where will you draw that line so that the State... does not see the citizen as already convicted?
Look, the first thing to clarify.
- For
About: reduce homicides and combat organized crime
What I like about El Salvador is precisely the willingness that Bukele had to treat what is a war as a war.
- For
About: reduce homicides and combat organized crime
Wars are wars, and he confronted it and turned his country, which was a narco-state...
into a state that today is proud of itself for having solved that problem.
Desconhecido
But war, at times, presupposes the suspension of constitutional rights, constitutional guarantees.
