Sérgio Moro: I can give an example that became notorious: the bill—the law that was later approved—that ended the temporary furloughs of prisoners on holidays.
Sérgio Moro: That bill passed in this House. I presented an amendment that, in my view, was important to ensure its approval, because there was resistance, but even so there was always a Government position against tougher criminal legislation, so much so that Lula himself vetoed that bill.
And we later had to overturn it in the National Congress.
Sérgio Moro: The anti-gang bill: the initial version presented by the Lula Government was very timid.
Sérgio Moro: Some advances, yes, but it was a demand coming from the population, from society, and the Government, wanting to take advantage of that demand, finally presented a bill after much debate within the Ministry of Justice itself.
