Sérgio Moro: And here I remind this House of a bill of my authorship, which I presented in 2023, Bill 1,307 of 2023, which I presented also because of my experience of having been threatened by organized crime in retaliation for the work I did as Minister of Justice and Public Security.
Sérgio Moro: I presented this bill, which had an accelerated procedure before the Federal Senate — it was approved quickly in the CCJ, even unanimously — and it went to the Chamber of Deputies.
There it was approved in the CCJ and awaits a vote by the Plenary of that House.
Sérgio Moro: Among the various measures we put forward, one of them should be highlighted for this moment, which is the provision that law enforcement agents, whether active or retired, may receive police protection when, even retired, they still find themselves in a situation of risk as a result of having exercised their former function, because, with respect to those who confront organized crime, the risk does not end with inactivity, the risk does not end with retirement.
Sérgio Moro: It is exactly the opposite: the risk is accentuated, especially because, out of active service, the police officer, the judge, the prosecutor stop circulating as frequently within the circles of Justice or the police and become more exposed to possible attacks carried out by organized crime.
