Sérgio Moro: I have many reservations regarding this Selective Tax, but I am mindful that it is intended, especially, for products that are harmful to health.
Sérgio Moro: I do not understand the rationale of charging this Selective Tax on automobiles, which are a consumer good that Brazilians use.
Of course one can, eventually, question the pollution generated by vehicles, but, in any case, people will not stop buying cars because of that, and the tax burden on vehicles is already very large.
Sérgio Moro: In short, vehicles were left in the PEC as subject to the imposition of the Selective Tax.
Sérgio Moro: So it is healthy that we can, at least, defend a ceiling to curb the revenue-raising zeal — and here I do not mean just this Government, but all governments, because whenever a government has the possibility of increasing taxes, it normally resorts to those goods whose consumption is inevitable, whose purchase is inevitable, and where the possibility of evasion is very small.
