Sérgio Moro: Organized crime, although it has a wide diversification of activities, still has, among them and particularly profitable, drug trafficking and arms trafficking—smuggling and "descaminho" (customs duty evasion); they are sources of wealth, illegal markets controlled by those criminal organizations.
Sérgio Moro: When the Federal Government, in order to make the necessary adjustment to public accounts, cuts precisely in the area of border control, it sends a message—a new negative message—to the criminal world; that is, either we change this course of events, or we replace this Federal Government, or we will see, increasingly, the escalation of organized crime in our country.
But when international actions arise, when international measures are taken that facilitate our work and hinder the activities of those criminal organizations, we must praise them, we must endorse them and use that designation so that we can reinforce here our investigative and repressive activities against those criminal organizations.
Sérgio Moro: That is what we intend to do, for example, within our project in the State of Paraná.
Sérgio Moro: In the State of Paraná, we will bring our expertise as a judge for 22 years, we will bring our expertise as Minister of Justice and Public Security, during which we went after organized crime and continue to suffer consequences to this day because of it, but our project involves transforming Paraná into the safest state in the country.
