Sérgio Moro: I came to know María Corina Machado — unfortunately not personally, but through seminars I attended, because she, unfortunately, has to live as a fugitive, in hiding, and cannot leave Venezuela due to the dictatorial acts of Nicolás Maduro, who has usurped that country's power for a long time.
Sérgio Moro: We even had the opportunity to hear her here in the Federal Senate, in Committee, at my request, in the Public Security Commission in 2023.
And this Nobel, this prize, comes as a just recognition not only of her courage but also of the Venezuelan people's struggle for freedom.
Sérgio Moro: This prize, in addition to being a recognition, strengthens that struggle, placing it, in a way, in the eyes of the whole world.
Sérgio Moro: This also represents an indirect form of protecting her against attacks, assassination attempts and the many cruelties of Nicolás Maduro's regime.
