Marcos Rogério: Now, the extradition request against Tagliaferro is based on a complaint from the Office of the Attorney General, which alleges crimes such as breach of official confidentiality, obstruction of proceedings and of the investigation, and coercion in the course of the proceedings.
Marcos Rogério: Italy, as we all know, with which Brazil has maintained an extradition treaty since 1989, will have to assess whether the case meets the legal criteria.
And when we talk here about fitting the legal criteria, it is because, under the law that deals with these conditions for the extradition process between Brazil and Italy... among the criteria is the motive.
Marcos Rogério: If the motive is political—some form of political persecution of a legal nature—extradition is prohibited under that provision between the two countries.
Marcos Rogério: But there is a central point that needs to be debated.
