And I believe that the Brazil we dream of and deserve isn't built only with a quality public school — but without education it doesn't happen either.
So this is my main focus.
One of the first projects I passed was a law to distribute sanitary pads, which is now nationwide, so that girls stop missing class for lack of pads and can continue studying.

Girls who, when they are menstruating, don't go to school.
It was a study that really moved me.
Out of every four girls, one had already missed class due to lack of sanitary pads.
But menstruation is a taboo and we didn't talk about it.
And a pack of pads costing 10 or 15 reais is one of the first items to be removed from the basic basket when a family has no money.
And that's it, it's simple to solve — which is why we're solving it.
Another project is Pé de meia.
Pé de meia is a savings account.
which is opened in the name of a low-income young person who is in high school so that they can continue studying.
Dropout rates in Brazil are extremely high.
And those who don't finish high school here live four years less.
Just to give a statistic to those who are following us.
So, for each year that the young person completes high school, without repeating or dropping out, one thousand reais are deposited into the savings account in his name.
But he only accesses that savings account at the end of high school.
This is a project that has already been tested around the world.
It has results and it's the first time we're doing it in Brazil.
And there are 4 million young people banking on this savings account to study, to do technical education, to go to university, take prep courses, or open a small business.
So it's a way of leveling this country a bit, which is so unequal, right?
