The problem of violence in Brazil has a solution.
Yes.
In recent days I had a very impactful experience in El Salvador, which used to be the second most violent country in the world and is now the safest country in the world.
Do you know what El Salvador had five years ago?
Cities dominated by criminal organizations with rifles, the so-called gang members, who extorted the residents of their towns, killed those who didn’t pay the fees for gas, electricity and internet.
They trafficked drugs, murdered innocent people during their robberies, raped women — in short, they did everything.
And these terrorists, when they were arrested, got out of jail very quickly.
Does that sound like some place or some country you know?
So, the situation in El Salvador began to change.
How?
When voters elected a National Congress that gave a broad majority to the president, Najib Bukele.
Then the changes began with strong popular support.
to begin reclaiming the sovereignty of the country, retaking all the territories that the people had lost to those terrorists.
Yes, terrorists, enemies of the people, members of a parallel, bloodthirsty government.
So a set of laws was passed that came to consider it an extremely serious crime simply for a terrorist to belong to that parallel government.
There was an understanding that they had to be dealt with criminally.

A kind of franchise in which the franchised terrorists are jointly liable for all crimes committed by order of the owners of those criminal franchises.
There was hierarchy, guerrilla training, its own laws, its own culture, its own music, its own language for each of these criminal enterprises.
As if it were a CV, a PCC and so many others that, unfortunately, we have in Brazil.
The minimum sentence for the simple fact of belonging to such a criminal enterprise, to that parallel criminal state that destroys a country's sovereignty, is 20 years in a closed-regime prison, with no right to visits even from family—a very harsh prison.
That is to say, conjugal visits and temporary releases are out of the question.
And if one is a leader of the criminal enterprise... the sentence can be up to 60 years.
The law created a separate criminal procedure, a specialized court of an exceptional nature to try members of these criminal enterprises.
Proceedings move much faster and with virtually no appeals.
Thus, I saw a terrorist here who killed more than 300 people, a scoundrel who set buses on fire and shot those who tried to escape through the windows, a serial killer sentenced to more than a thousand years in prison.
These thugs chose to ruin a lot of people's lives.
So they'll stay imprisoned knowing the chance of ever getting out is almost zero.
So that they won't kill anyone else, not a single innocent person on the street.
There was an outcry from human rights defenders, but the people supported the 'enough is enough.'
And the government went ahead, removing from society those who want to live in a parallel, savage criminal state.
A very important point.
The judiciary did not interfere.
No judge declared the law unconstitutional.
Because the big winner from all this—do you know who it was?
The people.
The homicide rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell from 138 to 1.4 per year now in El Salvador.
It can be solved in Brazil as well, which is a much larger country, it's true, but we have many more resources, we have many more police and military.
We just need to vote correctly.
