There are other important drainage challenges in the city of Rio de Janeiro that Mayor Cavalieri probably won't be able to resolve.

Now, the investments in large‑scale drainage and heavy slope containment in the city of Rio de Janeiro happened during my administrations.

Rio was the city that brought to Brazil the concept — operations, alarms, preparing the population — this culture of saying, look, today we won't have classes.

Today we'll say: leave work earlier, pay attention, don't travel across the city.

This wasn't common in Brazil until 2010, when we introduced the operations center and that whole culture — bases of support — which saved many lives.

So, a resident of the mountain region can be sure that I always pursue structural and complete solutions to problems.

The funds I secured via PAC for the Rio Acari basin are sufficient to truly solve the problem; it's not just a little dredging.

We've done a lot of that — cleaning, trying to improve here and there — but it's an immense amount of resources; it will take some time; these are complex works, since there is a lot of occupation on the riverbanks there, but we'll seek the resources for the solution.
