Sérgio Moro: And from that BRICS meeting I did not see any concrete resolution toward a greater rapprochement among those countries; what we saw, moreover, in the statements made at the end of that BRICS meeting was a complete inversion of values, embodied in the point where the BRICS condemned an attack carried out by Ukraine on Russian territory, on civilian infrastructure, in which there were said to have been some civilian victims.
Sérgio Moro: We are all against the war, and if that attack did, in fact, have that result, it deserves to be condemned, but the hypocrisy of that statement—and Senator Damares was with me there, in Kiev, to see the suffering of the Ukrainian people—the hypocrisy of that condemnation of Ukraine’s attack is highlighted by the complete omission of the context, a context in which Ukraine is the victim of an invasion by Russia; Russia is the aggressor country.
And worse than that, every day we hear reports of attacks carried out by Russia with drones and missiles against civilian targets in Ukraine, resulting in civilian deaths.
Sérgio Moro: So how can one justify that the BRICS could issue a statement with such a level of hypocrisy, as if Ukraine were the aggressor and not the other way around, as if Ukraine were responsible for hundreds of Russian civilian deaths, when it is exactly the opposite that is true, numbering in the thousands, due to the malicious, wanton attacks in a war of aggression waged by Russia against Ukraine?!
Sérgio Moro: To conclude the absurdities of the presidential diplomacy, we witnessed a hypocritical reaction by President Lula to President Trump’s statement regarding the proceedings brought here in Brazil against former President Bolsonaro: Lula reacting in a manner, in my view, aimed at electoral gain, criticizing President Trump for his interference in internal affairs, but failing to look in the mirror, failing to acknowledge that he himself, not long ago, in addition to promoting the rescue of the corrupt First Lady of Peru, carried out that embrace and that affront to the Argentine judiciary by arguing that Cristina Kirchner would be the victim of some kind of persecution.
