Sérgio Moro: I was Minister of Justice and Public Security and we had the opportunity, at the end of 2018, when I was still in the transitional government and later, in 2019, to jointly organize a major operation against organized crime, which was the transfer of the PCC leadership from the state prisons of São Paulo to federal maximum-security prisons.
Sérgio Moro: They said it could not be done, they said that, if it were done, there would be a retaliation against the country, there would be a nationwide wave of attacks by the PCC.
With the precautions that were taken... And several agencies were involved: the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police, the Federal Penitentiary Police, the Civil Police of São Paulo, the Military Police of São Paulo, the Armed Forces, and the São Paulo state penitentiary officers.
Sérgio Moro: In fact, we put the whole country on alert so that there would be no reaction from the PCC.
Sérgio Moro: We had a successful transfer, without incidents, and we did not have, subsequently, a rebellion — let us put it that way — by the PCC against the population, against the authorities, as had occurred back in 2006.
