Sérgio Moro: Good afternoon everyone. President of the Senate, Senator Davi Alcolumbre, Senators, I wish to pay my respects here to the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, María Corina Machado, valiant, courageous, a defender of democracy and the freedom of her people.
Sérgio Moro: I came to know María Corina Machado — unfortunately not personally, but through seminars I attended, because she, unfortunately, has to live as a fugitive, in hiding, and cannot leave Venezuela due to the dictatorial acts of Nicolás Maduro, who has usurped that country's power for a long time.
We even had the opportunity to hear her here in the Federal Senate, in Committee, at my request, in the Public Security Commission in 2023.
Sérgio Moro: And this Nobel, this prize, comes as a just recognition not only of her courage but also of the Venezuelan people's struggle for freedom.
Sérgio Moro: This prize, in addition to being a recognition, strengthens that struggle, placing it, in a way, in the eyes of the whole world.
