Sérgio Moro: As a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, I voted for and approved the names that were nominated, Mr. President, and I am also voting here today in favor of these names, because I draw a very clear distinction between the Itamaraty, which is made up of a cadre of highly qualified professionals, serious people who will carry out this work in the embassies, and, nevertheless, I must register here my displeasure regarding the presidential diplomacy, the diplomacy of President Lula, which has been a disaster for our country.
Sérgio Moro: However, I know how to make that distinction: I will not leave a Brazilian embassy post vacant, nor will I block career progression—often a promotion or the placement of an ambassador at a necessary post abroad—because of my disagreements with the presidential diplomacy of the current Government.
This presidential diplomacy has been increasingly disastrous.
Sérgio Moro: Within the span of a week, we saw Lula visit Argentina and choose, instead of honoring Mercosur agreements, instead of seeking a harmonious relationship with his Argentine counterpart, President Milei, to carry out a childish provocation: he sought out the corrupt Cristina Kirchner, convicted by the Argentine judiciary, a person we all know to have a bad reputation, and went there to embrace her and even pose for ridiculous photos asking for her freedom.
Sérgio Moro: A disrespect to the Argentine judiciary, a disrespect to President Milei, a disrespect to Mercosur.
