Sérgio Moro: Ladies and gentlemen, fellow Senators, I come here to register my concern about the situation of agribusiness in our country.
Sérgio Moro: In particular, Paraná draws much of its wealth from the strength of its agribusiness.
Not only because of fertile land and favorable climate, but because of the dedication and work of rural producers — workers, whether small or large farmers — but I read reports that the Lula government cut the funds intended for crop insurance by half: the amounts went from R$1 billion to R$474 million for crop insurance.
Sérgio Moro: This comes in a context in which we have the arrival of El Niño, which will certainly impact and create greater risks for the productivity of our agribusiness.
Sérgio Moro: There are reports published by the newspapers — I highlight here O Globo — and there are also several rural newspapers and channels reporting that the area covered by insurance will fall to 2.8% of the total planted area, which is a practically insignificant percentage, considering the demands of Brazilian agribusiness.
