Sérgio Moro: He did exactly the opposite: first, he appointed his personal lawyer; then he appointed an executive branch minister who was extremely close to him politically; and now he is making the nomination of the Attorney General.
Sérgio Moro: Where are the nominations of public officials or jurists, lawyers, judges or prosecutors who have stood out for a career independent of the Executive Branch?
So, now is not the time for us to fill this vacancy.
Sérgio Moro: The approval of this name will represent the continuation of this Lula STF (Supreme Federal Tribunal), which the population, for the most part, already rejects, because we do want an STF (Supreme Federal Tribunal) that is independent of the Executive Branch, an STF that has an important role in Brazil's history, but also understands that it is up to the elected institutions of the Executive Branch and of the Legislative Branch itself to make decisions and to formulate the essential public policies of a country, which are often controversial and cannot be left to be resolved by the pen of a judge who was not elected; who is not subject to popular scrutiny either to attain his position or to remain in it.
Sérgio Moro: Well then, tomorrow I will be in the CCJ, tomorrow I will be in this Plenary, and, because of yesterday's episode in which that attempt — which did not succeed — to remove me from the CCJ occurred, I found myself forced, even before the confirmation hearing, to state my opposition to this nomination.
