Sérgio Moro: When I saw the news of that ordering of preventive detention, I immediately thought: "The facts must be very serious, since preventive detention is exceptional and since Minister André Mendonça is a Minister who acts with great serenity and caution," but anyone who reads this decision promptly agrees with the measure that was taken.
Perhaps, from this drastic measure, we can begin again to clarify various facts that haunt this Republic and perhaps we can also cleanse this Republic — a work that was begun in Operation Lava Jato, which, however, was later dismantled for political reasons, solely with the objective of allowing not only impunity to return but, as is revealed by the scandal of the theft from INSS retirees and pensioners and likewise by the Banco Master scandal, for thievery to return.
Sérgio Moro: No one in a Republic should be above the law, not even a banker with powerful connections.
Sérgio Moro: We will await developments, but on my part, in the CPI (Parliamentary Inquiry Commission) on Organized Crime and also in the CPMI on the INSS, we will carry out our work, inspired by the courage of Minister André Mendonça.
