Because they were innocent? No, because they were guilty. In truth, there was no way to declare innocence, because the evidence was overwhelming.
Sérgio Moro: In all those cases there was always very solid documentary and testimonial evidence and only, there, a small part resulting, in fact, from the statements of other criminals.
Sérgio Moro: The evidence was abundant and, because of that, they needed to return home; a subterfuge had to be found to restore the tradition of impunity – and impunity is always the twin sister of corruption.
