Romeu Zema: Because in the Jornal Nacional hearing, you said you would like to grant amnesty to those involved in January 8, or if you cannot grant amnesty to those involved in January 8, at least give these people a fair trial, a trial that is not political.
Romeu Zema: But there are two problems with that.
On amnesty, the ministers of the STF (Supreme Federal Tribunal) have already pointed out that they would consider amnesty for crimes of a coup d'état unconstitutional, based on clauses 43 and 44 of Article 5 of the Constitution.
Romeu Zema: On the other hand, deciding who will judge or re-judge those involved in January 8 is also not a presidential prerogative.
Romeu Zema: The President of the Republic cannot come out and say that this trial doesn't count now or that it will be a different trial.
