Marcos Rogério: I have brought here excerpts from two speeches by two magistrates of our Supreme Court, in a setting external to the STF, and I would say, and here I say, that the mere fact of observing Ministers of the highest Court holding external debates, and worse, even in internal meetings of the Supreme Court, opening sessions of political debates, addressing topics of politics and ideology, already shows us that we are experiencing a serious crisis in our Justice system.
Marcos Rogério: A judge's primary mission is to be an adjudicator and, in the mission of judging, one of the basic requirements is impartiality, the equidistance from the passions of politics, from circumstances, from the day-to-day of a society that may have differing views.
But no: when one presumes to, when one mixes the role of adjudicator with that of political activist, that reveals to us a crisis difficult to repair.
Marcos Rogério: And I say: what we are living through in Brazil is the deepening of a crisis precisely because the Judiciary has left its rightful place.
Marcos Rogério: I repeat: the serious crisis we face is because the Judiciary has left its place of origin, ceased to fulfill its constitutional mission to act as a political instance, with an ideological bias, with political passions.
